Description

Hi y’all,

This past weekend a bunch of us headed north for Sydney Supanova. Lots of fun was had!

We catted it up on Saturday and we went onstage to do a swing/lindy hop skit. ~Dispozition as Mungojerrie ~chrysocome as Rumpleteazer and ~xpuddycatx as Jemima, characters from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical CATS.

Managing not to die on stage was great! So proud of everyone.

Surprising how many people like Cats! Loved getting photos with people :3

You can find a video of our skit here: [link] . We didn’t win anything but had tonnes of fun anyway.

Construction notes!

We owe lots of gratitude for costuming advice from :iconxpuddycatx: and The Cats Costuming board, www.theccdb.com/

And,

We owe ALL of our undying love to ~xpuddycatx and ~forever-girl for ever so patiently and kindly helping us put our outfits together the last 48 hours before the con including very late on Frday night/Saturday morning. MWAH. Simple could not have done it without you.

So ~Dispozition and I worked together on Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer; Cat did Jemima on her own and in her own way. I’ll talk about how we did Mungo and Rumple (with the help of our wonderful friends).

Wigs: Crepe hair we had to import from overseas. Totally new experience making wigs and mixing our own colours. The base is made from a pantyhose, then we hot glued the crepe hair to it, then brushed and styled it. It took less time than anticipated which was nice. Note: Crepe hair gets EVERWHERE.

Arm and leg warmers: we decided on solo outfits for Mungo and Rumple which meant we didn’t have to knit our arm and leg warmers (chorus outfits). So it was made out of lycra and held onto the base unitard with press studs.

Unitard: We actually bought zentai suits (LOL) from online and modified it to our needs. It was painted painstakingly with Setacolour. “Fluffies” were squares of satin hot glued to the lycra and frayed using a metal dog brush. We were still fluffying at 3am on Saturday morning…

Tails: Sooo mindnumbing. Not hard, just boring. Mungo’s tail was made by knotting lengths of wool to a rope base. Rumple’s was made by maing several plaits of wool tied along the rope base, and then wool knotted around the top of everything in a similar way to Mungo’s. Tail belts are just plaited wool.

Makeup: Never done this makeup before! But I’m familiar with Kryolan supracolour and it went better than I thought it would. I can’t believe how much makeup can change a face! It took us roughly one and two hours for each cat (Mungo was a little more complicated than Rumple).

Accessories: collars and jazz soes were store bought. I made a pearl necklace for Rumple by modifying an existing one. We also made some bags out of hessian like the kind Mungo and Rumple have in their song – I love working a bag into cosplays and this one worked so well.

Catting was a lot of fun, and as you’ll see next week it’s something I’ll be doing a little more of ;) Really enjoyed it!
